About

Saint-Martin internet exchange

Presentation

SMART-IX is the public initiative Internet Exchange Point (IXP) of the territorial authority of Saint-Martin. It aims to create the conditions for traffic exchange between the various local operators and in doing so to improve the quality of the network for the end user. It will also provide opportunities for the deployment of new digital services and content activities by local companies.

More globally, SMART-IX is part of the CARIBIX project which will make digital exchanges between the Caribbean islands more efficient.

SMART-IX manages one or more physical interconnection points (facilities). Members can connect to other members' networks by connecting their router to one or more facilities.

Members may enter into separate peering agreements with any other member and/or advertise their route(s) to the IX route servers in order to exchange traffic, after being connected to one or more SMART-IX facilities.

Governance

SMART-IX is a non-profit public initiative whose members are responsible for defining the operating conditions. Its administration is ensured by the collectivité of Saint-Martin and its representatives.
